Teahupoo Tahiti Surf Travel Guide

Teahupoo, TahitiTeahupoo is located deep in French Polynesia which is a collection of 100's of atolls and islands spread out over a vast area of the South Pacific. Teahupoo (Pro. Cho'Poo) is affectionately called many things including chopes, chopo and T'Chupoo.

However, no matter what way you pronounce it, this wave is serious and seriously dangerous. Local Tahitians like Vetea David and Manoa Dollet are two of the best surfers to have ever surfed here - Vetea has even taken to it on a longboard and paddle!

Chopes is challenger to the crown that Pipeline has held for so long. Teahupoo is hollower, thicker and gets insanely big. The spot first made its mark on the 90's surf scene ridden by Mick Stewart, Ben Severson and Brock Little et al. Teahupoo has become thee most feared surf spot on the WCT tour for good reason - several pro + am surfers have lost their lives here.

Weather wise - welcome to the tropical South Pacific with its balmy humidity. The best time of year to surf here is from April - October, Very consistent with waves almost 150 days per year.
