Surfing Costa Rica
Costa Rica neighbours Nicaragua and Panana and enjoys waves on the side of the Pacific Ocean and Carribbean Sea. Costa Rica has 1,290 km of surf potential. Well known and hidden rivermouths, reefs, beachbreaks, pointbreaks and offshore islands await the travelling surfer.
The majority of surf possibilities exist on the Pacific ocean side with limited options on the Carribbean side. Don't miss excellent surf spots in the north; Witches Rock, Ollie's Point, Playa de Coco, and Tamarindo and down South one of the longest waves in the world; Pavones.

Getting to Costa Rica is possible from most every major international airport with flights arriving in Costa Rica in the capital city Juan Santamaría Airport (SJO) and the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIR) is the North West. There is an airport departure tax of US$26.00 for all travellers.
Weather in Costa Rica
The climate along the pacific coast of Costa Rica is mild-tropical, humid and average 75°F (24°C) with some cool mornings year round. Costa Rica has only two seasons, summer and winter. The warmest months of the year are March, April, and May and the wetter, colder months are September and October. Water temperatures along the Pacific shores are a balmy year round 80-84°F (27-29°C)

Asides from all the surfing you can do in Costa Rica, mix up your activities between wind surfing, rafting, fishing, scuba diving, kayaking, mountain biking, boating, horseriding and tours into the forests and up the volcanoes. If you are flying in from overseas you'll be arriving into the Juan Santamaria Airport at San Jose.
Health and Safety in Costa Rica
Drink loads of water to combat dehydration in this humid climate. Due to the tropical, equatorial climate there is the constant battle against mozzies (mosquitos) so update your childhood immunisations and taking preventative cautions against mosquito bites like using DEET and wearing long sleeves and pants.
Costa Rica has plenty of pitfalls for unsuspecting travellers. It is advisable that you do not travel alone as pickpocketing, robbery at knife point and sexual predation are sadly not uncommon especially in the capital San Jose. Traffic can be hectic and predestrians are not given the right of way. Police are known to be corrupt.
