Duranbah Australia Surf Travel Guide

Duranbah, NSW, Australia

Duranbah beach sits right on the border between New South Wales and Queensland and actually belongs to NSW although its on the Gold Coast. Duranbah (Dbah) is possibly one of the most consistently crowded spots in all of Australia, if not the world.

Duranbah is a wave magnet and works almost any swell but especially a south swell. Dbah can be surfed from 1ft - 8ft with winds best as a light southerly producing wedging peaks with lefts and rights on offer.

This is a favourite home beach for many pro's like Parko, Fanning and Deano. Weekends get ultra-ultra crowded! It gets a lot of swell and produces a lot of punchy, fast waves. You'll probably not meet any locals because the guard changes so much everyday with the huge amount of tourist surfers.

  • Climate: Sub-Tropical 300 days of sunshine per year

  • Best Surf: December - April (Cyclone Season)

While you are in the area you should consider surfing the Superbank, or The Alley, Burleigh Heads or Stradbroke Island. Alternatively, you can fly out from Coolangatta and taking a flight down to Melbourne to surf Bells Beach or over to Perth in West Australia to have a crack at Margaret River.
