Dee Why Sydney Australia Surf Travel Guide

Dee Why Sydney Australia

There are numerous peaks up and down the beach at Dee Why and the Dee Why Point as well. Crowds aren't so intense here but if the waves are good the point will be busy although you can score it with a thin crowd around gentleman's hour when most of the locals are working. The swell for Dee Why beach and point can be from the East/South East and the winds are best from West/North West.

  • Climate: Temperate (similar to coastal California)
  • Sunshine: 240 days of sunshine per year
  • Average Air Temps: Summer 80°F (26°C) Winter 64°F (18°C)
  • Average Water Temps: 59-77°F (15 – 25°C)
  • Best Surf: Jan - May
  • Surfboards: full quiver (mostly just shortboard)
  • Wetsuits: boardshorts/springy OCT - APRIL; 3/2mm steamer in winter

While you are in the Northern Beaches of Sydney you should consider surfing Whale Beach, Newport beach or Avalon Beach. Alternatively, you can fly out from Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport and take a flight up to the Gold Coast to surf the legendary Superbank or over to Perth in West Australia to have a crack at some heavier waves like Margaret River.
