Channel Islands Surfboards began in 1969 with Al Merrick (the owner + head shaper) and has been dedicated to performance and quality through hard work and innovation ever since. In the last 36 years, Channel Islands Surfboards has grown from a local grass-roots operation to a cutting edge shaping business, catering to the best surfers in the world. Channel Islands have hand-shaped over 700,00 surfboards - that is staggering. Whats more, these surfboards have been surfed to 16 World Titles!

Channel Islands Surfboards started with hard-core surfing and quality in mind and these guidelines have brought the Surfboards through 30 years of constant change within the sometimes volatile surf industry. Watch the history of Al Merrick surfboards come alive in Flow DVD released 2006.

Al Merrick reckons the reason why his surfboards go so well is the testing done by the surf team….and lets face it - he’s probably right. With a surf team that includes the following bunch its hard to argue:
