Robert August Surfboards

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Long before The Endless Summer and The Endless Summer 2 surf films, Robert August was already a surfing celebrity thanks to his reputation as a standout surfer at Seal Beach, California. Robert went on to become a masterful longboard shaper making Robert August Surfboards. Asides from his excellent longboards Robert August has been a good ambassador for the sport and continues to live the endless summer lifestyle taking surf trips to Costa Rica 5 times a year.

Robert August could have been a dentist, but a trip to his doctor persuaded him to stick with surfing. Reflecting on what could have been a completely different career, August said, ”I didn’t know if I wanted to do it, so I made an appointment with my dentist to see if he enjoyed it and he said he hated it. It’s repetitive, like fixing dings, except you’re messing in people’s mouths and they hate you. I really started thinking about it and decided I’m a surfer.” The surfing world should be thankful that August didn’t pursue dentistry, he playing a part in the resurgence of longboards in the 1990’s.

Town and Country Surfboards

Wednesday, October 17th, 2007

Town and Country Surfboards are a true Hawaiian creation, built from the experience and surfing lifestyle of president & founder Craig Sugihara. Town and Country Surfboards began in 1971 as ”Town and Country Surf Designs” with limited funds but sky high stoke for surfing and a strategically placed surf store en route to Oahu’s North Shore.

Town and Country Surfboards (also referred as T&C surfboards) became highly en vogue in Hawaii, the USA and elsewhere in Australia and Japan for their tee shirt designs and surfboards in the 80’s. T&C surfboards are still held in high esteem in the surfing world - some of the best surfboard craftsmen utilizing the highest performance materials, advanced design concepts and experience surfing Hawaii’s power-packed waves.

Craig Sugihara says ”Town and Country Surfboards goal is to build a team that represents the essence of Hawaiian surfing - commitment, power, style and respect.”

Town and Country Surfboards have also collaborated with Surftech Surfboards taking their unique Hawaiian styled templates to the mass-production era. Surfers can continue to surf the handcrafted T&C Surfboards or try one of the new lighter, stronger Surftech Town and Country surfboards.
